When you press Start, the browser asks whether to allow the camera. After you allow it, a preview appears and the number of frames and the frame rate are measured for a few seconds. The camera is not used before you press Start.
Everything is measured inside this page. The measured values and results are not sent, saved or recorded.
Measure
The preview is visible only on this page. The pixels of the video are not read, and nothing is recorded, saved or sent; only the time each frame arrives is counted.
The preview appears here once the camera is on.
This browser does not report when a frame arrives, so a fallback method was used. The measured frame rate can read higher than the real one, so the frame rate is not judged.

Result
Criteria used
These are the criteria this test applies. The values and the basis come from the same table the test judges with.
Item
Criterion
Value
Basis
No video frames
Minimum frames for a signal JikCheck initial criterion
1
Internal criterion: if permission and the device are fine (the stream is open) but not a single frame arrives, the result is Outside criteria. When permission is denied, no device exists or another app holds it, the frame count is null and the result is Cannot judge.
Low frame rate
Minimum frames for a judgement JikCheck initial criterion
60
Internal criterion: a rule for too few samples. With fewer frames received than this, a rarely occurring problem could be missed, so the result is Cannot judge. A few seconds at the fps of a common webcam.
Low frame rate
Measured ÷ reported frame rate that calls for a check JikCheck initial criterion
50 %
Internal criterion: for when the measured fps is far below the fps the device reports. In low light, automatic exposure can lower the fps, so Outside criteria is not given and advice about lighting comes first.
How to use and FAQ
?How do I use the webcam test?
Press Start camera and allow the permission. When the preview appears, watch the frame count progress shown on the page. Once enough frames have arrived, Show result turns into the primary button. You can press it earlier and still get a result; the frame-rate item that lacks data then shows “Cannot judge”.
?The permission prompt did not appear, or I denied it.
Allow this site's camera in the site settings next to the address bar, then press Start again. The camera access of the browser may be switched off in the privacy settings of the operating system, or the privacy shutter of the camera may be closed.
?The frame rate reads low.
In the dark, cameras often lengthen the exposure time and lower the frame rate. Light the room well and measure again. If the browser does not report when frames arrive, the frame rate is not judged.
?Is the result proof for an exchange or warranty claim?
No. The result is a reference measurement calculated from signals your browser receives. Follow the seller’s or manufacturer’s rules for exchange and repair.

Check that the lens cover or privacy shutter is not closed and that the lens has no dust or fingerprints.
Close other programs and tabs that use the camera, such as video calls or camera apps, and measure again.
Measure again under bright light. In the dark the frame rate can drop.
For an external webcam, try another USB port and plug it straight into the computer instead of a hub.
If it still happens, check the seller’s or manufacturer’s exchange and warranty terms.
Waiting for the browser's permission prompt. Choose Allow…
Permission was not granted, so the test could not start. Allow this site in the site settings next to the address bar, then press Start again. The operating system may also be blocking the browser's access.
The microphone cannot be used. Either permission was denied, or the browser could not start audio even though you allowed it. In the site settings next to the address bar, check that this site's microphone is allowed; if it is, press Start again. If it still fails, end any call or other app that is using audio and try again.
No usable device was found. Check that the device is connected and recognised by the operating system, then press Start again.
The device could not be opened. Another program or tab may be using it. Close it and press Start again.
The device could not be opened. Check the connection and the browser settings, then press Start again. If the device you picked cannot be used, switch the device selection back to the default device.
The tab was hidden, so measuring stopped and the device was turned off. Press Start to measure again.
The device was disconnected, so measuring stopped. Check the connection and press Start to measure again.
An error stopped the measurement and the device was turned off. Press Start to try again.
Another app or a call took over the audio, so the measurement stopped and the microphone was turned off. Once that is over, press Start again.
