Good to know

  • Everything runs in the browser using your device's resources. Very large files, or many files at once, can be slow or run out of memory; process them in smaller batches.
  • Saving straight into a folder works in Chrome and Edge. In other browsers the results are downloaded as files or as one ZIP file.
  • Very large photos and big batches need a lot of memory. A file that is too large for your browser may be marked as failed, or the browser may close the tab; try fewer or smaller files at a time.
  • Animated images (animated WebP, PNG and AVIF) are not converted; they are marked as unsupported.
  • AVIF results cannot store EXIF or a colour profile, so that information is not carried over.
  • Check the results before you delete the originals. Quality, size and metadata handling can differ by original, browser and format.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Conversion runs inside your browser on your device. Your images, their names and the information in them are not sent to JikTools. Only the conversion programs (codecs) are downloaded from jiktools.com, and those requests contain no image content or file names.

Can I open HEIC photos from an iPhone?

JikImage aims to open the HEIC (HEVC) photos an iPhone takes by default and save them as JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF. A file that cannot be opened is reported as an error on its row. Where the browser can open HEIC itself (for example Safari) it does so; otherwise JikImage uses its own program.

Which formats are supported?

HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF can be opened, and JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF can be saved. Animated WebP, PNG and AVIF are not converted.

Is the location kept in converted photos?

By default the location (EXIF GPS), XMP and IPTC are removed. Other camera information such as the date and model can stay. Each result row shows "No EXIF/XMP/IPTC location data" only after the finished file was read again and no location was found.
