Remove location (EXIF GPS) from photos

Remove the location stored in photos (EXIF GPS, XMP and IPTC) before you share them, and see for every result whether it is clean.

Your photos never leave this device. Nothing is uploaded.

or choose files. HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF are supported.

Saving straight into a folder works in Chrome and Edge. Here the results are downloaded as a file, or as one ZIP file for several.

The conversion programs (codecs) are files of this website. Your browser downloads them from jiktools.com when needed; these requests contain no image content and no file names.

How to use

  1. Add the photos you want to share.
  2. Keep the setting that removes location data, or choose to remove EXIF, XMP, IPTC and comments.
  3. Save the cleaned photos and check the "No EXIF/XMP/IPTC location data" mark on each row.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Conversion runs inside your browser on your device. Your images, their names and the information in them are not sent to JikTools. Only the conversion programs (codecs) are downloaded from jiktools.com, and those requests contain no image content or file names.

What exactly is removed?

The location stored as EXIF GPS, the XMP block and the IPTC block. Other data in a file, such as a camera thumbnail or a custom data block of another program, is outside this and can remain. The pixels of the picture are not changed. Extra images stored after the main picture in a JPG (such as an HDR gain map, a depth map or the video of a motion photo) are also removed when location data is removed without re-encoding.

Does removing the location reduce the quality?

Not for JPG, PNG and WebP: only the information blocks are changed and the picture data is copied as it is. HEIC and AVIF cannot be cleaned that way, so they are saved again as JPG and the row says "Re-encoded". Extra images stored after the main picture in the file (such as an HDR gain map, a depth map or the video of a motion photo) are removed too, and the row says so.

How can I be sure the location is gone?

After each file is created, JikImage reads the result again. The "No EXIF/XMP/IPTC location data" mark appears only when that check finds no location in EXIF GPS, XMP or IPTC. It covers those places only, not every possible way a program might store a place.
