Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. PDFs and images are processed inside your browser on your device. Your files, their names and what is in them are not sent to JikTools. The PDF engine itself, the programs that read and write PDFs, is a set of files of this website that your browser downloads like any other page file.
Can JikPDF open password-protected or restricted PDFs?
No. A PDF that needs a password to open is not processed. A PDF that has permission restrictions, for example no copying or editing, is not processed either: JikPDF does not remove such restrictions. However, a PDF that has only an owner password and no restrictions is processed, and the result does not keep that password.
Which resolution (dpi) should I choose for page images?
A higher dpi gives sharper and larger images and needs more memory. Choose the lowest value that is sharp enough for your use. If a page is too large for the chosen dpi, JikPDF asks you to choose a lower value instead of changing it silently.
Why did a large file fail?
Everything runs in your browser with your device's memory. Very large files, many pages or high-resolution page images can run out of memory. Try fewer or smaller files at a time, or a lower resolution (dpi) for page images.
