Keyboard test

Press Start, then press the keys you want to check. JikCheck counts keys that registered twice within a very short time. Afterwards you can mark keys that did not respond when you pressed them.

Everything is measured inside this page. The measured values and results are not sent, saved or recorded.

Measure

Tab is measured too. To leave the measurement area, press Esc and then Tab.

Press the keys you want to check. Fn and some system keys send no signal to the browser, so they cannot be measured here.

Criteria used

These are the criteria this test applies. The values and the basis come from the same table the test judges with.

Item Criterion Value Basis
Key typed twice Minimum key presses for a judgement JikCheck initial criterion 30 Internal criterion: a rule for too few samples. With fewer non-repeating keydown events than this, a rarely occurring problem could be missed, so the result is Cannot judge. It is of the same kind as the minimum number of clicks in the mouse double-click measurement.
Key typed twice Short re-press interval JikCheck initial criterion 30 ms Internal criterion: an initial assumption that catches repeated inputs shorter than the interval at which a person releases and presses the same key again, including switch-contact bounce that gets past the firmware debounce and shows up as a repeat.
Key typed twice Re-presses that call for a check JikCheck initial criterion 1 Internal criterion: even one short repeated input is treated as Check needed, and measuring again is suggested. A single one can be chance, so it is not treated as Outside criteria.
Key typed twice Re-presses outside the criterion JikCheck initial criterion 3 Internal criterion: an initial assumption that if it repeats several times in one measurement, a cause in the switch is more likely than chance.
Key not registering Keys marked as not responding JikCheck initial criterion 1 Internal criterion: if the user marks even one key as “pressed but nothing happened”, the result is Outside criteria (user confirmed). The mark is the user's own judgement, so advice to press again and to try another port comes first.

How to use and FAQ

How do I use the keyboard test?

Press Start, click the measurement area if needed, and press the keys you want to check. Press Stop when you are done, mark any keys that did not respond, and choose Show result.

Why can’t some keys be measured?

Browsers receive no signal from Fn and some system or media keys, and the operating system may keep keys such as Windows or Print Screen for itself. A key without a signal cannot be measured here.

What does the number of keys held at once mean?

It shows the most keys the browser saw held down at the same time. That limit comes from the keyboard’s design. It is for reference only and is not part of the judgement.

The letters on the on-screen keyboard differ from my keyboard. Is that a problem?

No. Keys are matched by their physical position, not by the letter printed on them, so any key you press lights up the key in the same place. The picture follows the usual layout for the page language and has no number pad; keys of the number pad are still counted when you press them.

Is the result proof for an exchange or warranty claim?

No. The result is a reference measurement calculated from signals your browser receives. Follow the seller’s or manufacturer’s rules for exchange and repair.
