Gamepad test

Connect the pad and press any button so the browser notices it. After you press Start, go through the let-go, rotate-the-stick and press-buttons steps.

Everything is measured inside this page. The measured values and results are not sent, saved or recorded.

Criteria used

These are the criteria this test applies. The values and the basis come from the same table the test judges with.

Item Criterion Value Basis
Stick drift Minimum time at rest JikCheck initial criterion 3,000 ms Internal criterion: the minimum length of the hands-off resting step. An initial assumption chosen to be longer than the time a stick needs to return to its place right after you let go.
Stick drift Stick offset that calls for a check JikCheck initial criterion 10 % Internal criterion: if the median stick magnitude with the hands off (axis range [-1, 1]) exceeds this value, the result is Check needed. A magnitude below the one treated as Outside criteria is described as an amount that can be felt in games or settings that use a low dead zone.
Stick drift Stick offset outside the criterion JikCheck initial criterion 24 % Internal criterion: a resting input above the default dead zone of common games is Outside criteria. The default dead zone follows the value known from the XInput constant XINPUT_GAMEPAD_LEFT_THUMB_DEADZONE, 7849/32767 ≈ 0.24 (8689 ≈ 0.27 for the right stick).
Button not registering Buttons marked as not responding JikCheck initial criterion 1 Internal criterion: if the user marks even one button as “pressed but nothing happened”, the result is Outside criteria (user confirmed). The mark is the user's own judgement, so advice to press again and to try another port comes first.

How to use and FAQ

How do I use the gamepad test?

Connect the pad and press a button to wake it, then press Start. In the let-go step take your hands off the sticks and wait a few seconds, then do the rotate and press-buttons steps. After you stop, mark the buttons that did not respond and choose Show result.

The pad is not recognised.

The browser reports a pad only after you press one of its buttons. For a wireless pad, check the power and the connection. If that does not help, try another USB port or close other programs that use the pad.

Why are buttons shown by number and not by name?

The numbers map to different buttons on different pads, so no names are given and the numbers are shown. A pad with a non-standard layout does not say which axes are the sticks, so the sticks are not judged.

Is the result proof for an exchange or warranty claim?

No. The result is a reference measurement based on signals your browser receives and on what you marked yourself. Follow the seller’s or manufacturer’s rules for exchange and repair.
